100th Anniversary Dodge Vehicles in the Works
Although the 100th anniversary for the founding of Dodge is over a year away, the head of the brand says special editions commemorating the date are already in the works.
On details, however, he was pretty tight lipped.
The brand head did say that the vehicles would honor the company’s founding spirit of independence and distinct style and performance.
Dodge Preparing 100th Anniversary Models
In an interview with Automotive News, Dodge head Tim Kuniskis said that Dodge is unique from all other automotive brands, with power and technology across an entire lineup that is not found among other automakers.
The 100th anniversary editions will celebrate that uniqueness, which was originally inspired by the company’s founders, John and Horace Dodge.
The brothers are described as entrepreneurs and individualists who “wanted to break free from what everyone else was doing.”
Although the company was originally a parts maker for Detroit-based auto companies, the brothers chose to break away and create their own car company.
On Nov. 14th, 1914 the brothers did just that. Four years later Dodge was the 4th largest automaker in the United States, trailing only Ford, Chevrolet, and Buick.
Although the Dodge brothers died in 1920 due to separate circumstances, the company remained and was later purchased by Walter P. Chrysler and his Chrysler Corporation in 1928.
Keeping the Unique Spirit Alive
Doing things differently has been the theme of Dodge from the beginning, and Kuniskis plans to keep that theme going into the future. The 100th anniversary editions will be an extension of Dodge’s founding principles.
Using the Dodge Charger as an example of Dodge’s uniqueness, Kuniskis talked about how, on a spreadsheet, the vehicle is very similar to competitors like the Ford Taurus or Toyota Avalon, but “psychologically, it’s not even in the same ballpark as those cars.”
If Dodge’s history tells you anything, the 100th anniversary editions should be something special.
